THE GREAT GATSBY ESSAY

As we read through each chapters, I noticed that Gatsby had an obsession with Daisy. He did everything to please her.  He even became rich for her. He gave his life to her. Just like immigrants came here with a goal,  to the land of opportunity, known as America. They bet their lives on it.

Even though he became rich, he didn't gain much from it. He only got people, that wanted something from him. He knew that but didn't care because all he wanted was Daisy. Even though, Daisy,was just playing around with Gatsby. He thought he finally had the chance to have her again. Gatsby desperately wanted something that he couldn't get. He symbolizes our desires, to have something that we can't have.

He was to selfish to want something that can't happen. Many people want more then they can have. Gatsby wanted to relive the past he had with Daisy. He was asking more then he can have. People can not have everything life. That why people always say, "Life is always unfair."  We will always want many things, even if you are rich that doesn't change anything. No matter, who you are, you can't have everything. That's just the way, it is.

CUE THEME MUSIC

In my English class, we read  The Great Gatsby.  In class, our teacher asked us to say what we think is the central message. Each group, said something completely different then what I thought.  In end, I went with this central message, people become more messed up to get what they want. The character in the story were messed up. Daisy just wanted money. She used Gatsby to get what she wanted. Her husband is also rich that why she married him, then Gatsby. Gatsby was not rich when Daisy met Gatsby for the first time. That's why she got married to Tom. When Tom met Gatsby, he didn't like him because he thought he was a show off. Daisy, get in an accident. She kills Tom's mistress. Tom get very angry. Gatsby covers for Daisy, making sure no one finds out that she is the one that killed her. Daisy used him, because of this Tom thought that he killed Mrs. Wilson Tom. tells Mr. Wilson that Gatsby is the owner of that car that killed his wife. In reality, the car was his. I think he told him that to get rid of him because Tom didn't like him to begin with. I felt that he knew that Daisy was that Killed Mrs. Wilson.

THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 6 PAGES (103-118)

-Gatsby changed his name when he was young. The name that he had before was James Gatz. He always knew what name he name he want. So he went with Jay Gatsby. Gatsby met a rich man called Dan Cody


-Gatsby started working for Dan Cody after Cody talked to him. While working for Cody, he worked as a steward, mate, skipper, secretary, and jailor.  Cody had more and more faith in Gatsby.

-Gatsby seem to have a lot of respect to Cody. Cody died later on, after  he encountered a woman named Ella Kaye. Gatsby was going to inherit twenty-five thousands dollars from Cody. Instead, he got nothing. He doesn't know why but he knew, that money went to Ella Kaye.


Nick goes over to Gatsby house after not visiting around for two months. When he went over her saw that Tom was there and other people. He was shocked to see him there. He knew that Gatsby felt uncomfortable being there with Tom.  There was a lady that invited Gatsby to ride a horse. Even thought the lady invited him. Tom was saying that why should Gatsby come when the lady doesn't want him to. Nick was surprised to hear when he clearly heard that the lady invited him. I had no idea that she was inviting him just to be nice but didn't mean it. I thought everyone liked being around Gatsby.

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT GATSBY

In some way, Gatsby is a great person because he did everything to get Daisy to love him. He would have given her everything she asked for. Nick who was the narrator, was not that honest because he hanged out with people that were so self-centered. He knew that but he was always hanging out with them. The reason why I think, he respected them was because of the advice that his dad gave him. He probably wanted to have a relationship to benefit from them. Fitzgerald described Tom and Daisy as  “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”  They  didn't care about anyone else but their selves. I strongly agree with  Fitzgerald. I understood that Daisy was lost and no on to guide but the choices she made were bad. I would not let her near my family. Fitzgerald also wrote something else,"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." I think it means that we can't undo something that already happened. Just like Gatsby tried to make everything go back, like it was in the past.

1. Gatsby waited for Daisy though the whole night. In till, 4 in the morning on the next day.

2. Nick told Gatsby to run away before things got worse. Gatsby said that he won't leave because he doesn't want to leave Daisy in till he finds out what she going to do.

3.Gatsby had a great time with Daisy before he left. He fell in love so much that he thought he got married with Daisy.



4. The author mentioned the gardener because it represents all the things he had before and now lost. It''s like metaphor. He was draining the pool.

5. The author started telling the story about Mr. Wilson who was Mrs. Wilson husband. The wife was having an affair with Tom. It talked about how Mr. Wilson  was mad at the driver that ran over his wife.  Mr. Wilson was saying that he has to find out who killed his wife. He was going to kill him. He found the person that  might have killed Mrs. Wilson.  He found out that Gatsby had the yellow car and went over to his place. Gatsby's butler, chauffeur, butler left to house and  some to the yellowing tree. Gatsby was entering the pool when Mr. Wilson came and shot him. Then he killed himself.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON GATSBY CHAPTER 5

So far in the book called The Great Gatsby. Gatsby asked Nick for a favor. He wanted Nick  to invite Daisy over to his place. Then Nick would invite Gatsby over to his place. He did what Gatsby wanted. He asked his cousin to come  over and not to bring Tom. Tom is Daisy's husband, he also Nick's old classmate. They went to Haven together. Tom was quite popular during his younger time even in till now. The day came, Gatsby sounded very nervous while waiting for Daisy. He thought that Daisy would not show up. Nick was telling him that she will show up.  They heard a car engine coming closer. Nick goes out and sees his cousin coming. He walks to  her and bring her inside. When Nick walks in the room, he finds no one. Only the door form the back is kind of opened. Then he hears a knock . He opens the door , to only see Gatsby standing there all drenched in water. He walks into the living to see Daisy siting there. Daisy was shocked to see Gatsby. There was tension in the living room. Nick feels the need to the leave the room.He tried to leave the room to get tea, to only have the butler bring the tea.He makes a another excuse. He said, that he had to get something and had to leave for  a while. Gatsby goes after him because he didn't want to be left alone with her. He feels to nervous. Nick told him that Daisy is just as nervous. He said it's rude to leave a lady in the living room by her self. Gatsby goes back to talk with her. Nick leaves the house and goes to his backyard. He waited for half an hour. Then went back inside, to see Daisy and Gatsby being more comfortable with each other. Gatsby asked Daisy and Nick, if they wanted to come over to his place. He wanted to show Daisy his house. They came over. Nick looked at everything in Gatsby's house and noticed that Gatsby, looked at the things that Daisy looked at with more value to it. Gatsby and Daisy became closer the more time they were together. Nick felt the need to leave again and leave them to talk about their past. I felt that Nick, was connection to reunite with each other. He also got left out and felt uncomfortable with them being all loving to each other.

THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 4 PAGES (65-85)

Gatsby and Nick went out to Hydroplane. When they got the place, Gatsby started to talk to Nick about his past. The things he accomplished, and what he did when he was younger. When Gatsby was telling him the things he did. Nick didn't believe in till,Gatsby showed him a picture when he went to Oxford. He also, showed him the medal he got when he served the army. It was from Montenegro. Gatsby told Nick that he wants a favor from him. Before he tells him what he wants, he told Nick that he will hear story about him from Jordan Baker. Gatsby and Nick went out to eat. Nick meets Mr.Wolfshiem. He is Gatsby's acquaintance. When they finished eating, they encountered Tom. Gatsby looked so uncomfortable as he shook Tom's hand. Tom asked what Nick was doing here. Nick was telling him that he was eating with Gatsby. He turned to look at Gatsby but found on one. I was surprised that he left so fast. He didn't even mention it to Nick. Later that day, he met with Jordan Baker.  She told him the story about her knowing Gatsby, when he was younger and seeing him with Daisy. They were a thing back when they were young. Even in till now, Gatsby stills loves Daisy. Nick finally realized why Gatsby felt uncomfortable with Tom.

THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 7 Pages (119-153)

Today, I kept reading the book called 'The  Great Gatsby.'  Its about Gatsby who is in love with Nick's cousin called Daisy. He loves her so much.He did anything for her. He always had a party happening at his mansion. Hoping that Daisy might walk in. They both met when Nick invited her to his house and then Gatsby came over. They both talked for while. He soon invited Daisy over to party, that was going to happen soon. Gatsby offered.She went to the party with her husband called Tom. Gatsby was trying to make Daisy happy in the party. He noticed that Daisy was not having a great time. Soon, he stopped having parties because Daisy didn't enjoy the other party. He also, fired all his staff because he didn't want anyone to be telling rumors to Daisy when she came over. All the staff members that he got were serious and weren't  into drama.  When Nick, Jordan, Tom, and Daisy came over to Gatsby’s house. He met Daisy’s daughter. He was shocked because he couldn’t believe she existed. Daisy didn’t really show that she cared about her daughter. Daisy also, told Gatsby that she loves him. Daisy suddenly wanted to go to New York. They all went to New York. While they were there Gatsby confronted Tom. He asked Daisy if she loved him or Tom. Daisy was having a hard time deciding who to chose but went with Tom. Tom was happy that Daisy picked him. He felt that he won. After deciding, Daisy just wanted to leave. So, Gatsby went with Daisy, they took Tom’s car. On their way home an accident happened, Daisy ran over Tom’s mistress. Who was called Mrs. Wilson. She didn't survive and died.

THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 3 (43-64)

We been reading a book called 'The Great Gatsby' in my English  class. The author wrote, Nick telling the story. Nick is man who is respectful and quiet. He has a cousin called Daisy. He lived near her place. He went over to visit because she invited him over. He met her husband, who was his old classmate back at Haven. His name is Tom. He found out that Tom was having an affair behind Daisy. When he was having dinner at their place. The next day. he met up with Tom. Tom took Nick to met his woman. He really didn't want to met her. They got to the place where she is. The place they went, was where  they fix cars. They entered the place. Nick met Mr. Wilson, who was fixing Tom's car. Then a woman came down to meet them. Mr. Wilson left to get drinks and chairs for them to sit down because Mrs. Wilson told him to. Then Mrs. Wilson came close to Tom and kissed him. Tom told her  to meet him later. He moved away, when Mr. Wilson entered the room. Tom said it was time to leave. Tom and Nick left and went t a station and met Mrs. Wilson again in New York. They went to an apartment they had together. They stayed, to drink and invited other people. Nick met Mrs. Wilson' s sister. The sister was telling Nick that her sister doesn't love her husband at all. That it's the same for Tom.She also, told him why her sister and Tom haven't gotten married. She said it was because Daisy is Catholic. Nick was surprised by the rumor because he knew that Daisy is not religious at all. She didn't know that  Nick was Daisy's cousin. As time went, Nick fell asleep because he was drinking. He woke up, to Mrs. Wilson arguing with Tom. Tom was telling her, she had no right to say Daisy's name. She kept saying her name. Tom got really angry and broke her nose. Nick, left the apartment and went home. I was really surprised that Tom would do something like that to her. Tom made me look at him more differently, after what he did.

In my English class, we are reading a book called 'The Great Gatsby.' So far, the person telling the story is Nick. Nick is Daisy's second cousin. They live in the West egg. Nick went over to Daisy's place.Nick met Daisy's husband, who was a old classmate. They went to to Haven together. His name is Tom. Nick found out, that Tom was having an affair. On the day, he went over to Daisy's place. Nick went out with Tom, the next day. Tom took Nick to a place, where they fix cars. When he went there. Tom told him, that he wanted him to met his woman. Nick, really did not want to meet her. I was surprised that Tom wanted Nick to meet his mistress, knowing that he is Daisy's cousin.

THE GREAT GATSBY CHAPTER 1 PAGES (5-26)

In my English class, we are reading a book called 'The Great Gatsby'. We started reading chapter 2. Which talked about Nick going over to his cousin's house. There he met Tom. Who is Daisy's husband. He went to the school as he did, called 'Havens.' Nick knew that Tom was quite rich and popular, back in the old days. He knows, that it still the same. They start to talk to each other and were about to have dinner. When there was call that Tom had to grab. In the room, he noticed a woman. She was talking to Daisy before the phone call happened. They were gossiping about things. Daisy had to leave the room to get something. The woman was called Jordan Baker. She got so quiet, when Tom left the room to answer the phone. She was trying to listen to the conversation. Nick was wondering why she was listening. So he asked, "Why?" She said that Tom was talking to his other woman. Nick was deeply shocked.He thought the relation between Tom and Daisy was going well. Then Tom came back and started talking about the thing they were talking about before. Nick felt uncomfortable staying there. He also found out, that Daisy and Tm had a kid that was just  2 years old. He found out so many things, some that he didn't want know but did.

AMERICAN LITERATURE

We talk about many things in my English class. My teacher made us learn about so many things we don't think about or we get taught in other English classes. You know we all have to take English. american literature, but have you thought of what it meant. Why it's called American literature? Do you guys have an idea of what american or literature means? I never really thought of it. To me, I thought american is just someone that was born in America. Literature to me, was just learning about the way of writing.Today we told the told what it meant to us. We didn't know. He told us to search what it meant. Here is what I got from searching literature.

For american, I did't really know because their was many different definitions. Afterwards, we told the teacher what we found for american literature. All of us got different definitions, here are some. Most of us,  didn't have a definition for american. So he told us what it meant. He says it's something you adopt, it's not because you were born in america.

WHAT'S IN MY BIG QUESTION FOR ME

In my English class, we were told to prepare a question that always comes up, in your mind. A question that you want to know the answer to. I really started to think, really hard about the questions that I had. It was hard to decide, which one I wanted to talk about. In the end, I went with, why are people so insecure about their selves? I thought of this question because I am insecure about myself. I want to know why some people care about others peoples' opinion? Why we must try so hard to make ourselves prefect? I want to be more confident in myself. I want to know a way that can put me, on that path.

BEHIND THE IGNITE TALKS

 In my perverse post, I talked about the big questions, that got my attention. We each told our class about a question that always came to mind. I asked them why they thought of that question. Here is what they said. The reason he asked what's inside the the black hole is because he was afraid the earth might fall into one. Soledad said, that she is against abortions that why she is curious why we let women have abortions. I was so surprised she was against abortions and about the earth falling into a black hole.I wonder why others thought when they were asking their big questions.

I'M IGNITED

Today, in my English class, we talked about questions that always come to mind. We each said our question. There were so many that caught my attention. These are two, what is inside a black hole?Why do some women decide to get abortion. I curious why they thought of that. Mostly about abortions. It's crazy how we think about so many different things. Here are some others, Will viruses and war bring the world to an end? Why do care about people’s genders instead of just letting them be who they are?Why do some police officers take advantage of their power? Why do people change when they get what they want? Tell me, your thoughts. What do you think about these questions or what do you about daily?

HOPEPUNK

In my English class, we talk about the most random things but those things are actually important. Today, we had to do research on Hopepunk. I found out it was a genre and it has so much meaning behind it.

Hopepunk-it's narrative motivation in the idea of optimism-embodied in acts of love, kindness, and respect for one another-as resistance

It's used in a way to want to change things. They want a change so they resist and fight. This is way they use this genre and the way the author wanted them to use it as.

In the last century before there was many different ways of  writings. The one that was used  the most was the of  character of naturalism.

ARGUE THIS

Today, in my English class we talked about, what is a syllogism? It means the simplest form of logical argument.  Validity is the truth. The premise is not true. When it's true is when you have enough evidence to support your reasoning. Just like math when you can play around with numbers but have to have enough evidence to support the way you solved, works. I always think of many things that always comes to mind. I am pretty sure all of have something we thinking all the time. The question that comes to mind is why are we so insecure about our selves? We all know that we each a flaw and no one has the time to actually pay attention to you. I am saying they are to caught in their own insecurities. 

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

I read a about John Steinbeck, today in my English class. He was a well known writing that wrote so many great books. As I read about him, I learned something that got my attention. It was quite hard to understand what he was saying when I was reading it. Thankful, my teacher was kind to break it down for. Steinbeck was saying that there will always be evil in the world. It will not die but there will also be good too. We have to have  balance in the world just like the yin and jang symbol. It will chaotic, if we didn't.

NOTES FROM TODAY'S LECTURE

In my English, we started talking about Martin Luther King Jr. and and how he gave his speech  in Washington. We started talking about him because here in the US we get the day off school. My teacher wanted us to know what was so great about the speech he gave. How the way he spoke was related to what we were going to start learning about. He said, that were going to talk about ethos, pathos, and logos. I learned about these terms in my classes before. I just forgot what they meant so he went over because he asked the whole class if they knew but no one really told he what it meant. So he assumed that no one knew but to be honest I had no idea. I was relief that he told us. Here are the definitions. He wanted us to watch listen speech to that MLK gave and being about to give examples, if gave he said anything that could be used as ethos, pathos, and logos.

-qualities of a speaker/writer that we can trust

MLK's speech
 He talked about the black people not getting the rights they have. He wants his children to be able to play, talk, use the same bathroom as whites, and have a class with them. He doesn't want his children to grow up in a place that have so much racial discrimination.

Pathos
-quality of emotion

He spoke for so many blacks and spoke from his experience. Fighting for equally.

Logos
-It about having a reason and evidence to back it up

 He talked about constitution that gives right to every man to be treated equally. What he seen so far is that all the blacks are getting mistreated.

DARK PATTERNS

Have you ever heard about dark patterns? I never heard about this term in till, my English teacher told us about it. It's when you go shopping online and see that people are in the same page or their are there are only a couple of these products. They tempt you to buy them because other people want it. They use dirty tricks to lure you into buying things. They sell your information. I shop online and sometimes I would see that it would show me other people are seeing the same product as me. They want me to buy it. I would see how many people are looking at it but then exit the page because I don't like it when it would tell how many people are looking at same the websites. I start to get insecure. I don't know why but I do.
